Also, the police presents is high and is very reassuring. Beautiful country to visit!

We had a local tour guide who was with us throughout the trip, which I cannot recommend enough. We went to Jerash, Amman, the Dead Sea, Gulf of Aqaba, Petra, Mount Nebo, Aljoun Castle, and Wadi Rum. The Jordanians we met were incredibly friendly and I would 100% go back.

With it’s neighboring countries being Iraq, Syria, and Saudi Arabia (which are countries that aren’t in the best in influence at the moment) I would’ve imagined Jordan to have very undependable security standards, but according to this post, it turns out that Jordan is actually safer than I imagined.

I had no idea at the time we were less than fifty miles from the Iraq border. The soldier just wanted to make sure we were coming back and not attempting an illegal crossing into Iraq and returned our passports when the tour was finished.

I wanted to see Kerak castle so bad so I set off from Amman with just my 2000 edition Lonely Planet Guidebook (They were good back then). When it was time to go home I boarded the bus back to Ma’an instead of Amman. Fortunately a kind Bedouin pulled me off the bus and directed me to the correct one. I also have a fond memory of watching sunset from the high place of sacrifice in Petra and getting escorted out of the park by a security guard because we stayed well past closing. I also remember getting cheated by a taxi driver in Amman. He tried to charge me 4x what I knew what the ride should cost so I put the money in the passenger seat and walked off, being called the b-word in Arabic the entire time. Would love to go back and see what’s changed and what remains the same after twenty years.
